Well, the verdict is in and the moment came yesterday when Russ and I stepped onto the scales! We were thinking…”surely we’ve lost”… The proof is with me, I am already starting to feel better. And Russ was thinking “must have lost after all the changes we’ve made”… He went first…and then he balanced carefully on the scales. The dial started to move…and…
there it was! A loss! Lots of clapping…but… there was a problem…something must be wrong with these scales…”I know I haven’t lost that much…surely!” It appears as if he’s lost about 8 pounds…and I seemed to have lost 5 pounds… but we both feel like the scales just might not be right…so we’re going to the doctor next week and weigh there again…we’ll all have to weight to see what the real verdict is…here’s hoping… but I know we’ve done great and I’m pleased.
The only trouble spot is at night… from habit, I want to eat something… Last night, it was a nectarine… the night before it was a stalk of celery… so even though I’m eating at night (which I don’t want to do)… at least it’s not a bowl of ice cream…
Keep wishing me luck as we travel on our journey. The next milestone will be on Saturday night when we have a social evening with Russ’s sister-in-law and her boyfriend. I’m sure there will be some alcohol consumed…uh oh…

Way to go, Elaine and Russ! That is great!
I know what you mean about the night time eating. (Reference: my entry “Nightly Rituals”.) However, what you are eating at night satisfies that desire to munch and is also healthy food, unlike my Hershey Bar, which falls into the “comfort food” category. LOL.
Hopefully, your scales are not erring on the opposite side. I am not sure if I would want to take that chance, I think I would be satisfied with what they read. With my luck, I would weigh at the doctor’s and discover that either A) I had not lost any weight but he had, or B) I had gained weight but he hadn’t. LOL.
Yes, Bill needs to gain weight. Actually, he is not underweight, but he looks thin, especially compared to the rest of us!

May I add my congratulations?
I am really impressed; those are both significant losses!
I sure know what you mean about eating out of habit(as Susan said too)
It’s scary how foods add up!
(but surely celery and nectarines are good snacks?)

Hi Susan (garden’s edge) – Horrors! I wouldn’t be able to bear it if he lost more weight than I did in ANY given period although it is easier for men than women. You’ll sure here about that here if that happens! Anyway, we’ve decided we’ll go to the nurse (at the doctor’s office) and let her weigh us every 2 weeks! I’m sure you’ll here about it here either way!

Hi Mary (Merri) – As I’ve said to Susan… I couldn’t bear the thought of Russ doing better than me (do we detect an air of competition going on here?). I’m sure weighing at the nurse will verify the RIGHT weight. I’m just interested in knowing if I’m losing. I can’t imagine we’ll be gaining. (See my next blog entry for what the latest thing is.)
